Shriners Hospitals for Children

Donor Information

At Shriners Hospitals for Children®, we value the generous donors that make our work possible. To show our appreciation, we offer a number of recognition programs to salute our donors and their generosity.

Gold Book Society

To recognize the importance of our donors and the difference their gifts make in the lives of children, we offer progressive donor awards through the Gold Book Society, a cumulative giving award program.

The Gold Book Society is an extension of the Book of Gold recognition program at each Shriners Hospitals for Children® location. Nine levels of giving, from $2,000 to $249,999.99, are recognized by Gold Book Society awards given to living benefactors. Donors may progress through all awards as additional contributions are made. In this way, Shriners Hospitals for Children® expresses continuing gratitude and appreciation to its supporters. All awards are personalized with the donor’s name.

Because We Care

In addition to receiving awards, living donors who contribute from $50,000-$249,999.99 are also honored as “Because We Care” givers.

A handsome plaque is displayed in a prominent location at each Shriners Hospitals for Children® location and at Shriners International Headquarters in Tampa, Fl. The plaque features the tribute: “In special recognition of those who have supported our ongoing mission to help children.”

Donors’ names are engraved on individual brass nameplates affixed to the “Because We Care Givers” panels, which honor living donations by individuals, corporations and foundations.

Philanthropic Society

The Philanthropic Society honors major living donors and deceased benefactors who give contributions and/or bequests in excess of $250,000. Living gifts and bequests are recognized on a cumulative basis.

The Philanthropic Society features the following charitable plateaus:

  • Bronze Philanthropic Society for gifts from $250,000 to $499,999.99.
  • Silver Philanthropic Society for gifts from $500,000 to $999,999.99.
  • Gold Philanthropic Society for gifts of $1 million or more.
  • Spectrum Gold Philanthropic Society for gifts of $5 million or more.

A Philanthropic Society award center is prominently situated in each Shriners Hospitals for Children® location and at Shriners International Headquarters in Tampa, Fla. The centers are permanent and highly visible tributes to significant benefactors. Every Philanthropic Society donation or bequest is honored by a separate wood plaque permanently affixed to the award center. The individual plaque features a laser-engraved, personalized inscription commemorating the donation or bequest, and a large bronze, silver, gold or black medallion of the Shrine seal. Mini-medallions are added to the plaques to indicate additional gifts in increments of $250,000. The mini-medallions denote the same levels as the large medallions, and more accurately reflect the cumulative total of the gifts or bequests.

Additionally, donors or the families of deceased benefactors may receive a Philanthropic Society personal plaque for home or office. This handsome walnut memento features a personalized inscription, a large medallion of the Shrine seal, and a laser-engraved portrait of the benefactors.

Naming Opportunities

Many donors are interested in having their donations associated with a particular tangible asset such as a room or piece of medical equipment, in lieu of the traditional recognition through our Gold Book Society or Donor Walls.

In addition to having handsome signage placed within the specified Shriners Hospital to commemorate the donor and honoree, donors will receive a wooden and metal book with an engraved graphic of the honoree to recognize their generosity.

Please contact the development office nearest you or the corporate office of development if you or your family are interested in this recognition program.
