The Shriners Children’s Spokane 100th Anniversary Gala celebrates our remarkable history and the discoveries made in pediatric orthopedic care, and how far we’ve come. Together.
The year was 1924. Calvin Coolidge lived in the White House. A loaf of bread was 28 cents. The average price of a home was $2,750. Wheaties Cereal made its debut along with the Milky Way candy bar.
And most importantly, Shriners Children’s Spokane opened in St. Luke’s Hospital as a 20-bed wing.
So many milestones in our first 100 years. Discoveries that have been groundbreaking – from the treatment of infantile paralysis at our beginning, to the worldwide invention of the polio vaccine in 1955. Today, we are the premier pediatric orthopedic children’s hospital in the region. Shriners Children’s Spokane now cares for close to 9,000 kids annually – children from Washington, Idaho, Montana, Western Canada, Alaska, and many international locations who travel here each year for their care.
