2014 Patient Success Story: Joe Dertinger

Story Summary

Joe Dertinger was a 2014-15 national patient ambassador for Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Born with an unusual condition affecting all four extremities, Joe underwent a series of surgeries when he was 15 months old, which included amputation of his right foot.

By the age of 5, he was heavily involved in downhill skiing and he hasn’t stopped since. He has won many medals in his sport and is now training for the 2018 Paralympic games.
