Alec is One in a Million

Story Summary

“Yes, I Can!”

Like many children his age, Alec loves sports. But it wasn’t always clear that he would ever have the chance to play.

Alec was born with brittle bone disease, which means his bones can break very easily. Without help from friends like you, Alec would have been forced to sit on the sidelines while other kids had all the fun.

But, thanks to your support, Alec is making amazing progress every day. He’s had several surgeries and gets customized physical therapy at Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Through advanced treatments Alec’s bone mass is gradually increasing, his muscles are strengthening, and his bones are fracturing less often.

So today, instead of watching sports, Alec is playing sports! Wheelchair softball and basketball are two of his favorites. You’ve helped get him into the game, but there is much more work to be done for Alec and other children facing orthopaedic conditions, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate. We hope you’ll make more life-changing care possible, and more dreams come true, by supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children today.
